THERE IS NOTHING LEFT HERE, 2006

Tree branches, photographic flashes.  Environmental dimensions

This work is part of the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Collection and was exhibited at the Foundation’s venue in Guarene in 1997. Originally conceived for an exhibition space, it has found a new and evocative setting within the Parco d’arte, inside this underground space carved into the hillside. Lightning Room emerges from the encounter between sculpture and place, between light and darkness. It is the result of an approach that the artist associates with “wandering,” an experience that combines the physicality of the world with a mental and poetic dimension, generating visions, artifices, and wonder.  Seeing a resemblance between a bare tree branch and a lightning bolt, the artist explains, led to the idea for the “room of lightning.” “A flash appears in a thousandth of a second, like the coming of an idea, like the epiphany that an image offers us.” The photographic flashes are triggered at irregular intervals which, much like certain pieces of serial music, create unpredictability and surprise.
