LA CANTINA DE GUARENE

Ceramic tiles, marble, stucco, cement. Dimension variable

La Cantina de Guarene is a site-specific artwork conceived for Parco d’arte and was created in what was once a water storage tank. The artist has transformed it into a welcoming space for socializing and sharing, through an environmental intervention that merges painting and architecture. The walls are covered with a mural mosaic, a large three-dimensional painting inspired by the imagery and architectural forms of Caribbean traditions. La Cantina offers visitors a place to gather and pause, sit on the benches, and contemplate the stunning landscape of the surrounding hills.Sol Calero’s installations are known for their immersive and participatory qualities. They combine materials and expressive media—furniture, textiles, mosaic, video, mural painting—and explore perceptions of the exotic and the illusory idea of the Caribbean as a paradise. The artist employs a multifaceted visual language to construct environments with a playful and convivial atmosphere, designed to stimulate reflection on themes of identity and migration.
